(in Ross Geller voice):

Hiiii.

Hi I’m Brooke. I make things and teach people and spend too much time in bookstores and reading show recaps and laughing at memes. I have a kid and a husband and a house.

I am a teaching artist and the Assistant Director at the Charlotte Art League in South End, Charlotte, NC.. I also hold the Chairs for Programs and Community Outreach. Additionally I hold individual and group art classes, art coaching workshops, and sessions on branding and marketing for artists. Read more about that here, here and here.

My favorite things to create with are old photos, washi tape, dictionary pages, magazines-old, new and international, yearbook pictures, and the illustrations used in old school textbooks.

For mixed-media I mostly use acrylic, watercolor and ink, and I swear by gloss medium to keep everything on lock. I always embrace the Process Art movement when creating a piece.

I find creative therapy in my work and am happiest when it is:

1. made in the moment

2. done fearlessly, and by experiment

3. developed using destruction (I like to make, destroy and rebuild).

I am highly inspired by the region I grew up in, all of last century I guess, Sarah Ahearn Bellemare, Girl Goddess #9, Japanese fashion magazines, women activists, Minna Gilligan, Beth Hoeckel and Rookie (because I think I’m still 15).

More than anything I like bookstores, redecorating my house, and studying people and cities (y’know–that thing I went to college for).
